Last night Tesco got the go-ahead for their extended store by 6 votes to 4 from the council’s Development Control Committee
Nick Baseley, Broxtowe Green Party’s independent planning consultant, still maintains that a rejection of this application could have been upheld at an appeal and that the case of his retail expert was sound. The Committee wasn’t willing to make what, Broxtowe Greens believe, was the correct decision for Beeston and reject this proposal. Tesco already had permission to build a large store, which would have removed the eyesore in the centre of our town. Sadly that was not enough for Tesco.

Yet more political posturing without thought from the Greens. The Tesco site is in the town centre, that’s where shops should be built. If this new floorspace was in the form of 15 small shops and the name Tesco did not appear on the application, the development would be welcomed. It’s nothing to do with our council being “unwilling to put up a fight”, but it’s all to do with making the correct decision to allow shopping floorspace in the town centre rather than out of town. If you don’t want Tesco to build there, buy the site off them. If the local shops are that good, they will survive. Latest shop to open in Beeston is Betel Furniture charity shop in the long-vacant McDonalds – wonderful! Just what we don’t need, another charity shop and (oh my goodness) it might put some other charity shops out of business. It’s called competition and is one of the economic planks of our society. We dont live in a communist state. Allowing Tesco to come could actually invigorate the town centre, and attract other good quality niche shops. If Tesco wanted to build out of the town centre the opposition by a vociferous minority might be more .justified

We will see if Tesco’s arrival does “invigorate” the town. I suspect the opposite will happen.

Tesco is going to be built in Beeston just as they will get to build in Sandiacre, it does not matter what we say. Who do you think paid for the new job center in Beeston and paid for the new paths to be rebuilt? It sure as hell wasn’t the council never mind who says they did, it was Tesco money.
Why the hell do we need a Tesco at every corner you turn and don’t get me started on Tesco club card. I say don’t use it. Ok you get points and points make prizes, but they know all about you, what you buy and don’t buy even gas and electric via eon gets point on tesco card so tesco know what you spend with other companies. Tesco is a front for collecting your information and who do you think has access to this information. Yep the government do.
Now we all moan that the government are nosey and want to know so much but hey its only Tesco we don’t mind.
Google tesco and rfid chips. Tesco use rfid chips in products and packaging – go on have a look. The government are going to use rfid chiips in the future, so Tesco are testing them out.
I await the replies that say I don’t know what I on about and I am talking rubbish or if this even gets published – feel free to email me direct richardmacrae187@hotmail.com

Of course Tesco paid to relocate the JobCentre – the old one was in the way of their development, as was the Conservative Club. Theres nothing secret about it.
I dont think we actially need a Tesco here but if we dont, we wont shop there will we. If we are so anti-Tesco, there wont be a single customer in the shop when it opens.
Lets wait and see if thats what happens or whether we all turn out to be hypocrites.
